Brandi Chastain’s return to the WPSL for the California Storm was impressive. Brandi scored three goals and had two assists leading the team to a victory over the Clovis-Fresno Sidekicks. The 7-2 score was not indicative of the Clovis team’s strong play as the score was 2-2 at the end of the first half. Fiona O’Sullivan had two goals, Sissi and Rebecca Mendoza each with one goal. The solid midfield play from Sissi, Mo Whitney and Nydia Ramos controlled the second half. The defensive back line of Ro Hernandez, Jackie Cruz and Christina Quitasol got the act together in the second half and shut out Clovis. Ro Hernandez and Jackie Cruz just returned home from duties with the Puerto Rican National Team, as did Rebecca Mendoza of the Mexican National Team. The outside mid play of Cristina Quintero, Molly Nizzoli and Kim Hernandez helped solidify the attack in the second half. The keepers Jamie Souza and Cori Alexander played well under pressure. “ We achieved a solid victory against a good Clovis team. Fortunately we got our act together in the second half. The score was not an indicator of how well the game was played” –Coach Jerry Zanelli.
